MASJID AL MADINA

Masjid Al Madina is situated on Mount Street, Walsall. The project entailed the demolition of the existing mosque, and in its place the erection of a new purpose built two-storey mosque for the local community. The new facility would provide new spaces for local worshippers to pray and act as a central hub for the community. It would also provide extensive facilities for Muslim women to gather and socialise, and hold evening classes (Madrassah) for teaching Arabic and Urdu to children under the age of 16 throughout the week.

The client particularly requested for a contemporary design incorporating traditional elements, such as the dome which takes its shape from the mosque of the same name in Madina, Saudi Arabia. This was tackled by the use of contemporary screens with Islamic pattern covering the windows. This visual motif is repeated around the building to grant it a unique character which will stand out within the local area.
